FINAL REFLECTION
Dates: 11/7/12 - 11/10/12
Reflection: As for my final reflection, I would just like to first thank Ms.Oster, even though she is gone. She was such a help through this whole process. She put together so much and was always there when any of us needed help. I know this next AOIT director is going to be great too and I really look forward to meeting him/her but Ms.Oster did so much for us and we were all sad to see her go.
My internship was better than I ever could have imagined. This experience has really changed my life, and for the better! I learned so much while I was there, and I am also very sure they learned things from me while I have been working there too (all computer things or high school slang) but I mostly learned from them. Such as, how to style hair, what is all in the process of owning a salon, a little bit about how to formulate color, and what it's like to be in a work environment, because this was my first job. I feel like I have grown up so much since I started working at the salon. This job is something I always look forward to going to. I love going to work we have so much fun and I learn so much all the time! All of the girls I work with are great. We are seriously like a family, all up in each other's business all the time and getting on each other's nerves or in each other's way. But we all love each other and would be there for one another through anything. There are only five of us so I think that makes a difference too because it is easier for us to get closer to one another. When I came into this internship I was not completely sure what I wanted to do with my life yet but I thought I may want to go into cosmetology. That is why this was a great internship because it would help me make that decision as to whether or not this is what I wanted to do. After going through the whole internship, I am completely sure this is what I want to do with my life. It is perfect for me and I am so ready to start. I am graduating from high school in December and starting cosmetology at The Aveda Institute in Chapel Hill, in January. It is a ten to eleven month program and from there I have been offered to keep working at The Hair and Face Lounge after I graduate, which I plan to do. As for my life goal, I am going to move to the beach and open up my own salon one day. Not too soon though because a big part of this job is clientele so moving right away would not be a wise decision. Plus, while I am first learning, I know that the girls I work with now will be perfect because they will be there to help me if I need it. A goal is just a dream if you do not have a process on how to get there. That is why I plan on working at The Hair and Face Lounge until I am really good at what I do. Then, I will move on to taking steps to opening up my own salon. But, plans always change so who really knows what is going to happen. All I know for sure, right now, is that I am taking my next steps in life and I am going to work to be the best I can be!
